Lever Fulcrum World

Lever Fulcrum World

It was a dark and stormy hangover when I decided to jump on the wagon and finish that memoir collecting dust on the shelf I’d started when I was 5. I knew I couldn’t do it alone and needed an editor. Enter Carol Stanley, who, after reading it, took a sip of tea, and said, in so many words, “I don’t believe you.” Firing and replacing her would have been easier than dealing with her point: I was not writing from the heart. Hence the frustration and inability to finish. I needed to go deeper.

Going through the new versions, she met with me every other week. She kept me on course, she made me stick to my vision. She called out what didn’t sound right and applauded me when I worked hard. She made me go deeper than I thought I had the ability to. She did it gently, but she did it with sheer honesty, worldly experience, and well-read balance. I am awed by her devotion, critical and constructive honesty, her intelligence, and how good she is at what she does. If you are an author or aspiring to be one with a pet project, you could only be so lucky to have Carol Stanley on board.
